Scholastic Book Fair and Holidays Around the World

Scholastic Book Fair

SMS will hold its annual Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, November 28th through Friday, December 2nd. Our class will be book shopping on Wednesday, November 30th from 9:15-9:45 am. If you would like to preview the available books with your child prior to this date, you can see all of the available titles here!

Parents are more than welcome to join us as we book shop on Wednesday, and the book fair will also be open for the following hours if you would like to do your shopping at another time:

Book Fair Hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 8:30 am-4:00 pm
Wednesday 8:30 am-6:30 pm

You will also be able to shop online Monday-Friday if you are not able to make it to SMS and would like to shop with your child. As always, you are more than welcome to send your child to school with money on Wednesday so they are able to shop on their own. If you are available to volunteer at the book fair, there is a sign up on the Book Fair Site, and I know your help would be greatly appreciated!

Not only does the book fair help to get great books in the hands of students to bring home, but it also raises money to get great books and literacy programs for our school. Thank you for supporting our reading!

Holidays Around the World

During the month of December, the first graders at SMS will be studying holidays around the world...learning traditions through books, poems, and projects. We will be learning about St. Nicholas Day (The Netherlands), Diwali (India), Hanukkah (Israel), and Mexico (Las Pasadas) as well as our own Christmas traditions.

Tomorrow your child will be coming home with a holiday family paper doll project to learn and share about holiday traditions.  More information will be coming home in your child's folder.
