We are so excited to be learning about our community. A paper came home in your child's blue folder Friday afternoon. The black and white photos of Stratham are due December 7th for our Knuffle Bunny Project! Please email the photos to mmurphy@sau16.org Remember, these photos can be taken anywhere in our town, whether it is at Stratham Hill Park, the fire tower, The Wiggin Memorial Library, our school, the playground, or even in your own backyard--the possibilities are endless! We will draw our cartoon selves into the photos once all of the photos are received and printed. Here are a few Stratham pictures for inspiration:

A Special Visit from Wildlife Encounters:

Before Thanksgiving vacation, the entire second grade was treated to a very special Visit! Derek, of Wildlife Encounters, brought with him several animal friends that each contribute to our Earth's substrate. Derek brought 6 animals to help us learn how animals adapt, survive, and contribute to the environment around them.  The animals that we saw include Three Banded Armadillo, African Giant Bullfrog, California King Snake, Prairie Dog, Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, and the adorable Chinchilla.

Second Grade Reading Partners

We are Non-Fiction Reading Experts

On Friday morning we invited a few first grade and second grade classes to join in our celebration of becoming Non-Fiction Reading Experts.  During our Expert Museum, the kids each shared one non-fiction book they were excited to share their knowledge with others.  The kids loved sharing their learning with others around them! Way to go Starfish!

All Ready for the Museum to begin!

On Thursday we made posters to put out on display for our museum.  We have quite the group of artists! The kids were so excited and proud of their artwork!

We wrote invitations to invite classes to our Expert Museum on Friday morning!

Partner Research with Non-Fiction Text Sets

The Starfish are working in pairs to gather research for their next Expert Book. Each partnership has chosen their topic and they are reading across non-fiction books and accessing books in EPIC to gather information on Sticky Notes.  Together they are going to decide how they want to display their information and their learning.
