Getting Ready for Winter Olympics 2018

SMS students met Eric Flaim- a 4 time Winter Olympian during a whole school morning meeting. Eric Flaim is a SMS parent and Olympic speed skater! He came today to teach us to dream big, set goals, have perseverance and a strong work ethic! This was a really special experience for our Stratham Memorial community.  We were able to see his Olympic torch from Salt Lake in 2002, his silver metal from 1988 and 1994 Winter Olympics, and his gold World Champion metal in 1988.

The kids were able to see Eric Flaim's Olympic Collection up close

Kick off to Winter Olympics - Whole School Morning Meeting Friday

All about the Potato Winter Olympics

The Starfish are going to participate in a first grade tradition of Potato Winter Olympic games next week.  We voted on the three events their potatoes will compete in...

1. The Potato Luge- We will first build ramps out of wooden blocks.  Then we will roll our potatoes down a ramp and measure how far they will go

2. The Potato Bobsled- We will put our potatoes on scooter boards.  We will then push our scooter boards and then measure how far they go

3. Potato Speed Skating- The kids will skate with wooden blocks on their feet around the classroom holding their potatoes in their hands.  I wonder which speed skating team will win?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This afternoon the kids filled out their Potato Olympics Application.  Each Starfish had to name their potato, state which winter Olympic sport their potato was best at, and what country their potato represented!

The Starfish are Official Word Detectives
A Special Visitor in the Starfish Classroom- Will's older brother Connor lives in Australia and has been visiting New Hampshire for a few weeks.  We were lucky to have him visit our classroom on Thursday afternoon.  The kids asked Connor many questions about his life in Australia.

Each Friday We see our 3rd Grade Buddies (Mr. Harrison's 3rd Grade Class) Last week our buddies helped us make items for our Market and this week we taught our buddies a new math game.  This game focused on counting on a 120 chart and reinforcing the skill +10/-10
