  • Holiday Celebration- An Ornament Making Extravaganza- Tuesday, December 22nd.  All are welcome to come!
We are excited to try a new Starfish holiday tradition with the first annual ornament making holiday party.  We are looking forward to a wonderful event.  More information home soon!

Here's just a glimpse on what we've been working on:

    • Pulled out Mrs. Murphy's December Book Collection.  Read The Wild Christmas Reindeer by Jan Brett
    • Made a class holiday countdown chain
    • Read the Scholastic News article about Holiday Workers.  Talked about the main idea of the article the found the supporting details
    • Played the game "Sparkle" with our Words of the Day
    • Used our 5 senses with a popcorn making exploration
    • Added the words too, very, because, give, and came to our personal word walls
    • Becoming Super Smart about nonfiction topics during Reader's Workshop
    • Writing lots of teaching books in Writer's Workshop
    • Learned how to tackle spelling tricky words in our teaching books. Today we focused on using syllables to help spell words in our writing
    • Learned about frames and arrows in math
    • Working on two literacy centers each day in small groups.  In the centers this week we speed sorted our sorts, handwriting, and writing words with white boards
    • Played the math game, "Name that Number" on the IPADs
Questions to ask your child to promote school talk...
    • Tell me some of the nonfiction books you are writing.
    • What was one sense you used when you made popcorn today?
    • What have you been doing for morning work when you get to school each day?
    • Can you tell me how to do a speed sort?
    • What book did you read from Mrs. Murphy's December book collection with your partner?
    • Can you show me what you know about frames and arrows?  Can you draw one for me?
